What to Do When Everything Seems Like a Priority (and Nothing Moves Forward)

One of the most common bottlenecks in growing companies is not a lack of ideas, but an excess of them.

Everything seems important:

  • improving the product,
  • working on the brand,
  • launching something new,
  • optimising what already exists,
  • exploring new channels.

The result is usually paralysis, not progress.

In these situations, the problem is not the lack of prioritisation frameworks.

It’s that decisions are being attempted without first clarifying what kind of decision actually needs to be made.

Some questions that are almost never asked:

  • Are we deciding on focus, or simply accumulating tasks?
  • Which decision, if made well, would make many of the others irrelevant?
  • What are we avoiding deciding by keeping everything “open”?

When everything is a priority, nothing truly is.

And when decisions are not made, the cost is not only time: it’s team dispersion, frustration, and the feeling of always being busy without actually moving forward.

Prioritising is not about choosing more things.

It’s about consciously letting things go.

Sometimes, a single well-framed decision can unlock months of confusion.

These kinds of situations are not solved with longer lists, but with better questions.

This is exactly the kind of blockage I work through in my strategic sessions.
